Yahoo! Maps Plug-in for Apple Address Book

Uncategorized — Glen @ 9:33 pm

The Address Book application in Mac OS X includes a handy plug-in architecture making it easy to extend. One of the features in 4.0.6, the Tiger version, is the ability to show a map for a contacts address. Unfortunately, the map service used is AOL’s rather lame Mapquest. Apparently, Apple have switched this to Google maps in Leopard. I have created a plug-in which allows you to use Yahoo! Maps as an additional option.

New option in Address Book for Yahoo! Maps

Install is simple:

  1. Download and unzip the plug-in
  2. Copy the Yahoo! Maps.bundle plug-in to ~/Library/Address Book Plug-Ins
  3. Restart Address Book
  4. Rollover the required address for a contact, e.g. work or home
  5. Select Yahoo! Map from the menu
